...But That One Was Juuuuust Right

So the first week of the quarter is done. I can't believe how long this week was. It's only going to get harder too. Between school, tour guiding, and the 8hr shifts I've been pulling at work lately I'm exhausted. Yesterday, after Spring Insight, I lay down for a nap at about 6:30 and slept through until about 9 this morning.

The classes this quarter are interesting. I have four, all on TR except for one discussion section on wednesday. I think this is going to be a good quarter. Having all of my classes on the same day has made for interesting comparisons.

For instance, My Hist 184B (Chinese history from about AD 500) is the second in the upper division Chinese history series and the Prof just jumped right into the material. I have a very small amount of Chinese history, having taken Hist 80 at the end of my first year, and a very good memory, but I was struggling to place the first lecture in context. I can't imagine going into that class with no background. So, class #1 ... way to little introduction.

Then there was Classics 108 (Pagan Religion and Cult in Ancient Rome). For the first lecture in this class the prof had us taking notes on things like ... the uncertainty of sources, and how we had to consider the author's bias, and the importance of context. All quite true. All also something I learned in my Sophmore year (of highschool) while preparing for the APEC test. Like, ok, I know I'm a history major so I may hear this more often then Classics majors do, but come on. It's an upper division class. Luckily she did move on to talking about some interesting material so I don't think the whole class will be like that. But still, Class #2 ... way too much intro.

And then came English 184 (Detective Fiction) where we spent about 45 minutes trying to get everyone enrolled/ dropped which is hardly entertaining but where the lecture was ... perfectly geared. Yes! Not too complex or requiring a whole lot of background, but also not, "So, this is how you read." Class #3 ... juuust right.

I didn't discuss the actual class #1, my CCS class on Milton, because those are always good, and just in a totally different category.

I know this blog has been school obsessed lately and very narrative, I'm sorry, I'm working on that. My life is so packed right now though, that I'm not feeling too witty in print lately. Desole. Up next (probably sometime later today) the Spring Insight Saga.

The fact that I just walked upstairs and saw one of my new housemates standing on her desk chair slowly revolving in circles for no apparent reason.
